Coach Paul Westhead
brings his high-scoring style of play to the Great Western Forum once
again as he leads the Los Angeles Stars in their inaugural season in the
new American Basketball Association.
Westhead, who led the Lakers to their NBA title in 1980, returns to Inglewood
with a roster that features Ed O’Bannon, Toby Bailey and JaRon Rush,
all stars at UCLA. Legendary Bruins and Lakers forward, Jamaal Wilkes,
also serves as vice president of basketball operations.
The red, white and blue ball is not the only thing reminiscent of the
old ABA of the ‘70s. Wide open, high scoring games are also becoming
a hallmark of the new league as well. The Stars were undefeated in their
first three games – including a stirring 148-144 overtime win at
San Diego where they overcame a 21 point third quarter deficit.
During their 60-game season, the Stars will compete against the Chicago
Skyliners, Detroit Dogs, Indiana Legends, Kansas City Knights, Memphis
Houn’ Dawgs, San Diego Wild Fire, and Tampa Bay Thunder Dawgs. The
regular season runs through May 5.
Seating capacity at the Great Western Forum has been reduced to 7,500
for Stars’ games. Ticket prices range from $6-$25, with Jack Nicholson’s
courtside seat going for just $100. For tickets, contact ticketmaster.com
online, or call the Los Angeles Stars box office at 419-3131. |
